The Pepper Protein Steak was inspired by the traditional French creamy pepper steak, only Bertyn’s steak is 100% vegetarian, 100% vegan and can be quickly made.
The seitan in the Pepper Protein Steak is made using spelt flour and spelt meal, which is added to enhance the flavour and because spelt meal is higher in fibre than flour. The seitan also contains Oberkulmer Rotkorn wholemeal flour, an original variety of spelt that has never been crossed with other types of grain, which means it has a greater nutritional value and is also easier to digest.
The Pepper Protein Steak sauce is a delicious spicy vegan pepper sauce, without the high-calorie cream.
The base for the pepper sauce is almond flour, which Bertyn grinds in-house. The almond flour comes from 98% whole organic almonds from Andalusia in Spain, which are pressed into the best quality organic almond oil at Bertyn’s sister company, Noble House. The compressed almonds that are left over are low in fat and high in protein and carbohydrates.
This low-fat organic almond flour is mixed with tamari to create a tasty and unique almond milk, to which is added a subtle melange of organic black, pink and white peppers as well as a pinch of cayenne pepper, coriander and nutmeg.
The final product is a low-calorie pepper sauce that is packed with flavour and is deliciously spicy.
